There are three sets of Buckles which hold the coat on your dog: two Belly Strap Buckles and one Neck Strap Buckle. Each Buckle Strap consists of one fixed female end, one adjustable male end, and one strap hold down which goes on each male buckle strap to hold extra strap.

Note: Two Male Ends are Belly Strap Buckle Ends, One is a Neck Strap Buckle End

Start by cutting the remaining raw strap into six pieces. Cut two nine inch pieces and four four inch pieces.  Singe both ends of each strap to avoid fraying with wear.

All three female Buckle Strap Ends will use four inch pieces of strapping. Insert the strap through the Female Buckle End and fold it over about one third of the way from the end. Stitch the strap using a box stitch pattern. We often over-stitch the strap twice for extra strength.

Over stitch this box pattern for extra strength.

The Male strap ends are not sewn and can be assembled prior to attaching them to the coat or after.

You may choose to move the buckle up or down the Belly
Reinforcing Strap to tighten or loosen the finished coat.

Sew the same "box stitch" pattern to attach Buckle Straps onto their places on the coat and over-stich them for extra strength.   The Male buckle ends must overhang the edges of the coat to close the coat properly, but you can adjust where the strap is sewn to the reinforcing strap for a better fit.

Once the buckle straps are sewn, the project is over and done. Let us know if you had any trouble following these instructions so that we can clear up anything that might make the work more difficult than it needs to be. We  hope that your dogs gets as much enjoyment from the coat as ours do.
