Abernathe at 3 weeks

At two pounds ten ounces Abernathe (Abby) is a wonderfully cuddly little girl. She has wonderful symmetry and very nice ermine spotting. Her tail has a defect in its end which makes her less than show quality.

Her mother is a Norman Bassett, so smarter than pretty, but she favors her father in bone structure.

Her teeth are coming in and we are beginning to supplement mother with organic cow.

She does not do pictures and hates to be posed.

Hydrox at 3 weeks

Hydrox is very wiggly, and big at 3.6 pounds. She has great symmetry and long ears. Her tight smooth coat covers wonderfully loose skin.

She favors the great lines of her father. Heavy bones, big feet, and a great domed skull. If this continues she will be a beauty.

Her temperament is solid and easy. At three weeks this is as good as it gets.

Chips Ahoy at 3 weeks

2.8 pounds of wiggly fun. Chip shares his daddy's features. Heavy bones, broad skull and great ears. His fur is not symmetrically colored but he seems perfect as a family hound.

Snickerdoodle at 3 weeks

A stout featured little boy at  2.7 pounds. This one loves to ball up on your chest and accept love.

He favors his father's standard Bassett features and will be a lovely little family pet. Loose skin,  great symmetry,  long ears. Lovely red and white Bassett.

Lorna Doon at 3 weeks

She is an angel. 2.5 pounds with a ticklish personality. Big time smuggler. Loudest little girl, she demands better treatment.

She favors the Norman Bassett traits. Long legs, narrow features. Her skin tight and her white fur is short.
By far the longest, waggiest tail.

Macaroon at 3 weeks

Tiny at 2 pounds, this is a bit of red and white dynomite. Macaroon doesn't like to be told what to do. He is a climber.

He doesn't like stop.

The face is distinctly asymmetrical with one side red, the other white.

Nutter Butter at 3 weeks

2.8 pound of lovely lemon Bassett.
His features are all American. Broad skilled and heavy legs. Loose skin and mostly white wirey fur.
He will be a clown prince, curious, and comes with a permanent waggy tail.

Grasshopper at 3 weeks

2.2 pound of fast little boy. Lock the gate.

We really hope his coloring stays as it is. A broad blaze of whit covers nearly his entirely domed head. He favors his mother. Lock the gate.

This is the Traveler. He doesn't do pictures.

Thumbprint at 3 weeks

Mostly black fur and a long waggy tail. 2.8 pounds of very nice healthy girl. She has a passive personality and loves cuddling.

Her mother's legs ,skin and a narrow skull might mean this is going to be a clever Bassett. The most dangerous kind.

Milano at 3 weeks.

Tiny and squirmy. 2.2 pounds of cuteness.

She has her mother's features, but small. She will rule.

My favorite.

Oreo at 3 weeks

Oreo is 2.6 pound of settled down pretty Panda bear fun. She seems very aware, but is not very patient.
Her bones are heavy  but long. Her head is broad and not well domed. Her ears are already showing brown color on her wirey coat.

They are about to overflow.

I am amazed at how fast the babies are growing.  Many have their eyes open today and it is only a day or two before one of them escapes the whelping pool and w have to put up the pen.

Chow time at week one

Ałmost all have doubled their weight.

March 3, 2017 One Week Puppy Update

One week has passed since the Cinnamon gave us eleven puppies. They have grown quite a bit, a few have the early stages of eyes coming open. They are a good lot and all have some place to be on May 27th when they go to their new homes. There hasn't been many physical changes in their first week. Ann removed their dew claws and the little wounds have all healed. Personalities are beginning to emerge, but for the most part they have the same personalities we saw on day one. They have all grown up quite a lot:

  • Milano is still the littlest Basset Baby. she started off at 8.6 ounces, which was small, and today she sits at a very healthy 17.2 ounces. Quite a little eater, she is still the cutest and the smallest.
  • Hydrox began life at 12 ounces, but has put on a little weight. Hydrox tips the scales at 24 ounces today, doubled her weight and by far the heaviest.
  • Abernathe came to us weighing 11 ounces but today she sits at 22 ounces, another really healthy puppy.
  • Grasshopper was always a fast runner. He is very fast today as well, being one of the first to crack a little eye open. He was 9.7 ounces on day one, today he tips the scales at just ove 19 ounces.
  • Chips Ahoy came tenth in order of appearance weighing 11.3 ounces, today he is a very respectable 20.6 ounces.
  • Macaroon began life at 11.8 ounces and today has almost doubled in size to 22.6 ounces.
  • Lorna Doon is a very pretty little girl, advanced for her age she moves well and has opened both eyes a crack. Starting off at 11.3 ounces she now weighs a happy 21 ounces.
  • Nutter Butter was 10.3 ounces, but now she weighs 17 and 3/4 ounces. She has one eye open just a little too.
  • Snickerdoodle went from 11.8 to 20.2 ounces and is very squiggly. Hard to keep hold of.
  • Thumbprint has wonderful markings, is mostly black and white, and weighs 19.68 ounces, up from 11.7.

Everyone seems quite healthy.

Cinnamon has regained her former sleek body and her hair is very soft. She is maybe eating a bit too well, but she has a lot of work to do. Cinnamon Bear is a very good mother, but finds time to just be one of the dogs about an hour a day. She tends to be demanding, but good natured even as she demand a second jelly bean or dog biscuit.

All is well, there will be pictures when we look them over again at week #2.
